Hooray to 100!

I’ll never forget the day I came up with my idea for The Running Mermaid.  I was on a run, obviously.  But what may surprise you is, earlier that week my web design teacher assigned us a project to create a logo for a “fictitious brand”. In true Gennah fashion, I asked if I could […]

5 Reasons Why Running Really Sucks

Being a runner is a secret I always keep to myself when meeting new people. It’s almost as if every time I share that fun fact with others, their initial reaction is the typical, “I hate running!”  “That’s cool. Did I ask?”  I mean, I get it. Running sucks.  Even as a runner I have […]

#FernStrong

“You know you are going to be more upset with yourself if you don’t do it.” Those were the powerful words that inspired me to run my very first marathon. Leave it to Fern to drop a major truth bomb like that, but he was right! Although I questioned my physical ability, in my heart, […]

The Future is Female

Would you look at that, another hashtag holiday. Are you even surprised?! Yeah, me either. Although I must say, todays social media celebration goes far beyond #NationalMargaritaDay or #LoveYourPetDay, because today we honor being women. On that note, happy #InternationalWomensDay! But can I be honest with you for a second? Being a woman is something […]

A Mermaid & A Gemini Podcast

One day, many moons ago, my life-long bestie told me she wanted to start a podcast. I immediately thought, “WTF is a podcast?!” Kalisa always keeps me in the know, about everything I need to know. So after doing my research, and figuring out WTF a podcast actually was, I instantly became obsessed. Fast-forward three […]

Run Surf City Recap

The Surf City Marathon will always have a special place in my heart. After crossing the finish line last Super Bowl Sunday, not only did I feel like a champion, I also discovered that happiness isn’t about where you are, it’s about what you do. I’m not going to lie, I slipped into a low-key […]

Honolulu Homecoming

The first time I ever crossed the finish line to a marathon was in 2012, I was fresh to the island of Oahu and signed up for the infamous Honolulu Marathon two days before the big race. Everyone thought I was small kine crazy for taking on a daunting challenge with zero training, but no […]

WTF is a Life Coach?!

I’ll never forget the moment the idea of being Life Coach popped into my head. It was around the time I first began this blog and was given the opportunity to collaborate with The Spartan Race Series (insert shameless throw back to the Spartan Mermaid days here). That entire challenge opened my eyes to the […]

Be Your Own Bae: 8 Ways to Love Yourself

For the last five years the only relationship I’ve been in is with myself. Sounds kind of sad, huh? But what most people don’t know is, the reason for my dry spell single girl status was because at the ripe age of 23 I wanted to learn how to love myself. I made the ballsy […]

Confessions of a College Dropout

“What do you consider more valuable, an education or experience?”  It was the on-stage question asked at the 2013 Miss Hawaii USA pageant, a night that forever changed my life. Spoiler alert— I didn’t win. However, sometimes I can’t help but wonder what I would have answered if given the opportunity to speak that […]

I couldn’t have asked for a better Valentine’s date. Shout out to @thexanadulife and @equinox for putting on such an epic event, and major love to @sandilikebeach for helping us all open our hearts a little more last night. Thank you for always sharing your light and love with me! 🙏🏾💕
Spending the last six years stag has taught me a lot about self-love & it’s not as easy as Justin Bieber makes it out to be. This personal practice goes way deeper then bubble baths and face masks. Self-love is about forgiving your failures, speaking your truth, trusting in your intuition, freeing yourself of judgement, owning up to your mistakes, and believing in your beauty. It doesn’t matter if you are happily married, or celebrating solo, let’s show ourselves a little extra love today and every day! Happy Valentine’s Day lovers!🌹💃🏽 #BeYourOwnBae
What’s your love language?! We are breaking down the five different love languages on the podcast today, along with some serious relationship talk. Give it a listen & let us know which love language you speak! 🎧💕 #linkinbio #podcast
The Universe speaks to us through coincidence. Slow down & tune into the signs of synchronicity pointing you in the right direction. 🙌🏽🌿💫 #FernStrong #MermaidMantra
I had every intention to hit the gym today, but I decided to eat lunch again instead.
My selfie game is going strong after yesterday’s facial with @sandilikebeach. As I transition into my 30’s I plan to protect and preserve that Mermaid glow, all thanks to the help of my new personal skin care specialist! 🙌🏽🧖🏽‍♀️💕#filterfree
